The American Saddlebred Horse, previously called the American Saddle Horse, is a breed developed by some Kentucky plantation owners. These horses are well known in the world of horse shows. With their steady temperament and comfortable gait, they are used as parade mounts and for trail riding. The American Saddlebred Horse is called the “peacock of the horse show world,” due to its personality and stamina. Alert and sensitive, the average American Saddlebred stands 15-16 hands high but can be as small as 14.2 hands high or taller than 17 hands high. Usually black, chestnut, brown, or bay in color, the American Saddlebred is a well-proportioned horse.
